MaclarenStroller - Recalls

The CPSC reports that Maclaren USA is recalling all of their single and double umbrella strollers sold from 1999 through November 2009 – about one million strollers, in all. The models affected are Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller.

Reports that the hinge mechanism in the back of the stroller can cut (or cut off) children’s fingertips has prompted the recall. If you own one of these strollers, you can contact Maclaren USA (877-688-2326 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. www.maclaren.us/recall) for a repair kit.

By M. Rappard, I own a Sport Phil and Ted’s stroller and wasn’t very pleased with their cup holder option. I saw Bob’s and decided to give it a try. I am happy to say that it has worked great. Phil and Ted’s stroller has several handle angle options and although at some angles it is difficult to maneuver a water bottle in and out, overall it works wonderfully. Also, because Bob’s cup holder is Velcro, you can adjust the straps to make the cup holder level no matter what angle you have the handlebar at.

For those active moms and dads out there, there are athletic double stroller options for those who like to get in a brisk walk or active jog with their twins or similarly-aged kids. This article will explore a few of the jogging stroller options.

Most importantly, here are 7 key areas that you want to be sure to focus on when considering all your options:

• weight (for putting it in and out of the car)
• swivel ability (turning radius is nice and tight)
• comfort for you and babies

Let’s start by looking at a couple of the many stroller options to see how they stack up with what we’ve written:

InSTEP has a Suburban Safari Stroller that is functional, but perhaps not the best looking option out on the market. It has the single-wheel front wheel (also known as a swivel wheel, common in a jogging double stroller). The wheels are air-filled. It offers an under seat cargo basket. This is a pretty good package and can typically be found for under $200.

Some of these strollers have air-filled tires while others are plastic. If you come across a thorn and poof, there goes the air out of your double stroller front tire, that could make for a long walk back home. A good quality bike shop will be able to fill your stroller’s air tires with some goop or thick liquid that seals any punctures and will keep that air tire right on rolling. All aboard the athletic and in-shape family strolls!

We looked at many jogging strollers, even we don’t jog, but the jogging strollers all have seats too reclined. This one isn’t perfectly verticle but is good enough. We don’t carry a diaper bag anymore because the side pockets are good enough to put a few diapers and wipes (and keys, cereal bars). Before we bought it, we were worried that the ipod function may bring too many wires or attachment (we don’t want to play music). But it’s all built in inside a small box and doesn’t bother us at all.

I ordered the Jeep Stroller for my grandson. He is one year old and loves it. It was a little hard to put together – but as my husband says nothing we have bought for him has come assembled!
The outlet for the MP3 player is neat. He loves the horn and engine sounds. I would recommend this stroller to anyone looking a not your standard stroller.

Reebok Jogging Stroller

Reebok Joging Stroller has a rear suspension system that provides a comfortable ride for your child while being easy to push over a variety of terrains. The 16″ wheels are suitable for grass, sand, and gravel as well as paved surfaces. If you are serious about your jogging you should insist on a stroller with at least 16″ wheels, 12″ is only good for smooth surfaces.

It should be remembered, though, that babies under the age of 6 months should not be taken jogging, they don’t have the muscle control to properly support their heads and the back and forth movement when running could be harmful.

The Reebok jogging stroller, however, could be used as a regular stroller for the first 6 months after your baby is born and then when she is ready you can start taking her with you on your jogs.

This jogger has a fleece-lined boot that keeps your child warm and protected from cold drafts. Other handy features are the cell phone pocket, the adjustable canopy, and the one-hand folding mechanism.

When fully folded the Reebok jogging stroller takes up remarkably little space. The wheels are attached with a quick-release mechanism so taking the stroller completely down is a snap.

The Reebok stroller has been designed so that your child sits well back from the front wheel. This is safer than allowing the feet to come near the front wheel and distributes the weight more evenly for more stability.

We are quite impressed with this stroller. Care has to be taken when assembling that the front wheel is properly aligned otherwise it may pull to one side, but otherwise this is a good choice in a moderate priced jogging stroller.

There are two styles for transporting babies – tandem and side-by-side. Some strollers are meant for children ranging from various ages but generally the demand is for the twins.

The Graco Duorider is a quality product with a comfortable price tag. It is the perfect choice for those who prefer the side-by-side stroller for the twins. Below the contraption is a spacious basket for storing, the seats are reclining and there is a protective canopy overhead. It can be maneuvered easily and stored conveniently without hassle.

Also in the market is available a stroller frame to which additional seats for two can be attached. Here the advantage is that the babies can be carried from the house to the car and vice versa without having to remove the little ones physically. But the utility is only for a short time. It’s easy to fall in love with a Zooper Tango stroller. It is designed to hold 40 pounds is each seat, and is intended for infants as well as toddlers.

Since the Zooper double stroller is part of the Everyday collection, it is designed for convenience in the real world. The features are aimed at parents walking their children on uneven sidewalks, grass, and through shopping malls. To handle these varying terrains, the front wheels swivel but easily lock into place by a switch located conveniently on the handlebar.

The seats each have their own removable arm rest, adjustable leg rests, and large canopies that extend down in front to completely shield them from rain or bright sun. One stroller seat will accommodate a car seat being strapped in, and will work with most car seat brands.

The only downside may be that it does not fold down as compact as many other strollers. If you are fortunate to have a large budget to spend on a top of the line jogging stroller or double stroller, then you want every feature, convenience, and comfort you can get for your cash. Why don’t we get started right away in exploring some of the top quality choices?

The Baby Jogger City Elite retails for around $650. Individual reclining seats are a big selling point on this items. I have taken a look at these seats and they are very well made. The canopies are also individually operated.

And naturally for a stroller of this quality, you would expect the turning radius, the smooth ride and the feel of the handles to be cushiony, supportive and responsive. That is indeed the case. The folding mechanism on The Baby Jogger City Elite is intuitive and works smoothly. The adjustable handle bar, a feature in an increasing number of quality stroller choices, allows the user to stand erect and not assume a hunched posture to reach the handles.

And while this
stroller looks a bit intimidating in its stature, it does indeed fit through typical doorway sizes.
