Carl Fredericksen (voice by Ed Asner) ranks among the most unlikely heroes in recent animation history. This “UP” movie is amazing. The animation and art is gorgeous and I thought the story was fully entertaining and somewhat unique. There was humor and excitement as well as some very tender moments that I believe will keep younger kids and older kids, at heart fully satisfied.

1. Get attention: Lower your voice almost to a whisper and then say your request. Kids aren’t used to a quiet request.

2. Increase positive behavior: Research shows that giving kids the right kind of praise (called “positive reinforcement”) is one of the best ways to shape new behavior. So, catch your kid doing the action you want. Just make sure your praise is specific and tells your child exactly what he did right. (Adding “because” or “that” takes your praise up a notch. “I’m so impressed that you started your homework all by yourself this time.”)

3. Stretch persistence: Praising the child’s effort (“You’re working so hard”) and not inherent intelligence (”You’re so smart”) is proven to enhance perseverance and performance, but the child is also more likely to bounce back from a mistake—all because he feels success is not mixed.

4. Reduce fear: Expose your child to a fear in small manageable doses and help them develop a statement to speak back to the worry (“Go away worry!” or “I can do this!”)

5. Curb a tantrum: The longer you give attention to a tantrum the longer it lasts. Ignore, ignore, ignore!

6. Nurture kindness: Encourage your child to use the Two Praise Rule everyday. “Say or do at least two kind things to someone.” Random acts of kindness really are catchy!

7. Increase assertiveness: Stress: “Look at the color of the talker’s eyes.” Using eye contact helps kids appear confident. Strong body posture also helps a child be less likely to be bullied.

8. Friendship builder: The two most commonly used traits of well-liked kids are “smiling” and “encouraging.” Reinforce those traits in your child to boost his friendship quotient.

9. Develop healthy eating habits. Eating relaxed family meals regularly enhances kids’ psychosocial well- being, boosts grades and deters behaviors like smoking and drinking and eating disorders as well as teaches the child healthy eating habits.

10. Curb nagging. Say “no” the first time and don’t back down. The average kid nags nine times knowing the parent will give in.

Taga is a multifunctional urban vehicle, uniquely designed to suit the needs of today’s parents and children.

The New Taga

Is it a bicycle? Or is it a baby stroller? Or is it an expensive death trap for your toddler?

The Dutch sure do love their bicycles, so its really not surprising a designer from the Netherlands has come up with hybrid bicycle-baby-stroller. Its not the first of its kind… but its one of the more stylish. (Technically its a tricycle-baby-stroller, but whatever.)

“If you come to a situation where you don’t want to cycle or you’re not allowed to cycle, at the subway or in a supermarket, in less than 20 seconds you can convert it into a stroller,” says Jeroen de Schaaf, Taga’s European manager. The company is hoping to launch the Taga in North America this summer.

So far the Dutch manufacturer has won three European design awards for its coveted bicycle-buggy concoction and is being wildly endorsed by parenting blogs online (freaking yuppies jumping on the latest bandwagon). It sells in Britain for £1,695 (over $3000 CDN).

Its not lightweight however, clocking in at 64 pounds despite Taga’s aluminium alloy-frame Taga. That is roughly three times heavier than an average bicycle, so I guess the yuppies will be getting a workout pushing this thing everywhere.

The Taga is the future of parent/child transportation. The Taga launched in April, it is already on sale in 11 countries and has picked up three design awards. It’s wonderful idea, but if you have been go to Central or East Java, Indonesia, you’ll find similary gear for public transportation, that called becak.

Having a baby is wonderful thing for new parent. But it needs your caring, your attention and also your extra expenses. One way to increase the expenses is using the homemade wipes, which can give comfort for your baby’s delicate skin.

Similarly, the baby wipes that is sold in many stores or homemade wipes, they usually purchased as prevent skin irritation on the baby.

If you bought baby wipes in the average price $3-$5, with the ingredients such as water, chemical, alcohol and fragrance, this caused your baby skin dry. Its only need 60% of every purchased pack, if you make the homemade baby wipes. Indeed, you’ll get much more.

For make the homemade wipes, you need a roll of paper towel like Bounty or Viva, a strong plastic container with the cover, baby bath liquid and water. You can also make the wipes all organic or natural and choose by yourself baby bath liquid you like.

First, choose a cylindrical container which tall enough to place a roll of paper towels that is cut into half. The container should have fit tightly lid. By a sharp knife blade, Cut an ‘X’ opening in the centre of the container lid and also cut the roll of paper towel in two.

Mix well two tablespoons of baby-bath liquid and two cups of water in a bowl. Put the roll in the container and then pour the mixture too. Its need at least 5 minutes to soak the mixture properly with the paper towel. After that, pull smoothly the cardboard core from the paper roll so the innermost piece of paper towel will follow up. Pull the piece of paper towel through the ‘X’ slit in the lid. Finally, put the lid again on the container.

So you are now ready to use your home made wipes which inexpensive and safe for your baby’s delicate skin.

Babies especially newborn, sometimes has a problem with his bedtime. Sometimes the baby cannot sleep well in the night, but sleep for a long day. Its need your efforts to make him sleep better should revolve around getting him to learn to sleep on his own.

Before-bed routine should always consist of changing and feedings.

When putting him to sleep, try to make your baby as physically comfortable as possible. Make sure your baby breathe easily through the nose. By Kay: Excellent little monitors. I’ve had no problem with static despite the number of electrical appliances running in and around my house. The sound is very clear and I rarely have to turn the volume up higher than the minimum. The light meter is very accurate and defines between baby noise and other noise (radio, fan etc.) well. I’ve read complaints about this model that you can’t mute the sound completely which is true, but I don’t know why you’d want to do that anyway, you might as well not bother having a monitor if you’re not going to listen to it. Amazingly for such quality it’s one of the lowest priced monitor sets on the market even at full price, and can often be found on sale so you really can’t beat it.
